We’ve just about stopped buzzing long enough to reflect on how our first Xero event went.
WBS Accountants have had a partnership with Xero for 2 years now, and the approach we have taken over the last 12 months towards developing our range of services incorporating Xero, has been very much focussed on finding what works best for our clients and how we can add value to the personalised services we already provide.
We decided that the best way to let people know more about how Xero accounting can work for them, was by hosting our first ever Xero event. We wanted to keep it small and personal, provide an opportunity for people to find out more about cloud accounting and hear first hand from other WBS clients about their experiences of moving from record keeping to better financial control of their finances as a result of using Xero.
This time we made it an event exclusively for our existing clients, as we thought it was only fair that we shared the Xero love with them first, and also gave us a great opportunity for them to meet Andrew since he joined the business full time back in September. Cafe 95 in Gosforth provided fantastic food from their new tapas menu, and Claire of Yum Yum Cakes whipped up some gorgeous cup cakes (what event is complete without themed cupcakes).
The response to our invitation was amazing and provided a good mix of people and included clients who we have worked with as long as we have existed to some more recent additions to our client base. All were small businesses covering creative design, therapeutic massage, childcare provision, craft deign, virtual administration, PR and marketing but the one thing they had in common was that they all relied on spreadsheets to keep their records.
We believe that what really made it work, was the all important existing Xero clients who were happy to share their experiences, so a really big thank you to – Kate Slater, Anice McNamee & Belinda White. Darren Glanville from Xero gave us brilliant support and delivered a killer presentation getting the room thinking about where they were already using the cloud and why Xero is just a natural extension to the new way of working.
Despite the great food, cakes and company, we are not naïve in thinking that one demo is going to convince clients to jump onto our Xero cloud, so we left them all with a great exclusive offer :
free trial for a month to play with Xero with to their heart’s content
free initial training if they decide to use Xero for managing their business going forward
free first month’s subscription once they have gone live (ssh don’t tell Darren)
free telephone and email support for 3 months to sort out any new user nerves
Of course all of this was on top of the ongoing benefits for our Xero clients as part of the personalised service we offer:
monthly accounts packages incorporating Xero subscription
periodic check and review of their accounts during the year
periodic management reporting
faster turnaround of year end accounts
We have had some great feedback from the event afterwards and we are already planning another one for the autumn, but this time it will be open to all those who want to feel the Xero love and wake up in the morning declaring “I Love Accounts”.
Okay, I’m living in a fantasy world now, but it does echo the genuine change in business owner’s attitude towards their accounts after moving to Xero. If you want to find out more, and are interested in attending an event in the autumn use the comments box below to let us know.
